Werner Möller brings us photos from the 1978 Amateur World Championships in Nürburgring, West Germany, with a portion of the course being famous as the Nürburgring Formula One racing circuit. Gilbert Glaus of Switzerland became the 1978 Amateur World Champion, with Krzysztof Sujka of Poland in second place, and Stefan Mutter of Switzerland taking third. Glaus became a professional cyclist in 1982. In 1983, Glaus won a stage in the 1983 Tour de France, but in the 1984 Tour de France he was the Lanterne rouge (the last finishing cyclist). He was the Swiss National Road Race champion in 1982.[1] He also competed in the individual road race and team time trial events at the 1980 Summer Olympics.
